Both Melissa and Robert are diplomats at the U.S. Embassy in Prague and have lived abroad for many years. Carlos will guide us through the craft of producing high-quality olive oil, explore global production trends, and discuss the economic pressures and environmental challenges facing the industry today. We will also have the unique opportunity to enjoy an olive oil tasting featuring oils from his own groves. As a hands-on grower and producer -cultivating approximately 25,000 olive trees and producing more than 300,000 liters of extra virgin olive oil annually- Carlos brings extraordinary expertise and a beautiful passion for his work. Come and join us to welcome Julia Tatiana Bailey, Director of Galerie Rudolfinum. As artistic and executive director since 2023, she has led an effective operational restructure, boosted audience engagement, and commissioned a series of acclaimed exhibitions by artists including Antony Gormley, Iván Argote, Kateřina Vincourová, Sahej Rahal and the group exhibition ‘Poetics of Encryption’. Within the first two years, and with no extra investment, she increased attendance by 40% and achieved the gallery’s second most-visited year on record. Julia is an award-winning curator and art historian. She previously worked as a curator at Tate Modern and the National Gallery Prague, following a past career as a marketeer at the V&A and Royal Academy of Arts. She holds a PhD in History of Art from UCL and her monograph ‘Painting Paranoia: Cold War Art and Anti-Communism' is forthcoming from the University of Illinois Press in 2026. We invite you to an interesting meeting as we welcome Mr. Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Václav Havel Airport Prague, a position he has held since August 2021. Mr. Pos graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague with a degree in economics of aircraft manufacturing from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Václav Havel Airport is the gateway to Central Europe, and it is also an airport in one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, this international air hub handled almost 18 million passengers. Nearly 14 million passengers passed through the airport in 2023. Throughout the year, travellers have a choice of over 60 airlines with direct flights to over 160 destinations worldwide. Prague Airport employs approximately 2,700 people and it is estimated that 14,000 people are employed by companies active at the airport or linked to its operations. Dear all, This week's special guest is from the world of entertainment and culture: James Ulmer, who lives in Prague, is a leading American entertainment journalist and cultural commentator best known for creating the “Ulmer Scale” — a celebrity ranking system that evaluates actors and directors on criteria like bankability, talent, career management, and risk factors. The scale became widely used in Hollywood and in publishing as a way to assess star power in a structured way.
His credits include contributions to Variety, The Los Angeles Times, The Observer (London), and he spent eight years as international editor and columnist for The Hollywood Reporter, supervising a team of correspondents and covering global film festivals and markets.
Ulmer’s insights have been sought in major media, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times Magazine, CNN’s Showbiz Today, Entertainment Tonight, CBS This Morning, HBO, BBC, FOX, and E!.
Ulmer created the Ulmer Scale, a widely recognized system for rating the market value of actors and directors. He authored books such as James Ulmer’s Hollywood Hot List – The Complete Guide to Star Ranking and The Directors Hot List, which apply this methodology to evaluate and compare industry figures.
He has been interviewed extensively about film and Hollywood trends and speaks at film festivals and industry events. He has also enjoyed media appearances and interviews discussing cinema and entertainment culture.
Outside his journalism career, Ulmer enjoys creative pursuits such as playing ragtime piano and shooting and editing videos.

Founded in 1996, Chance 4 Children is one of the Czech Republic’s longest-running humanitarian NGOs, dedicated to supporting children growing up in orphanages, hospitals, or difficult social conditions. The organization helps young people successfully integrate into society by improving their quality of life and providing educational and vocational opportunities. Its programs (including Springboard to Life, Robin Hood, and the well-known Dr. Klaun initiative) have positively impacted thousands of children and families across the country. Dear Rotarians, It is our pleasure to welcome Ing. Petr Jan Kalaš, Czech-Swiss expert in the field of environment, energy and industrial planning and former Czech Minister of the Environment. From 1958 Mr. Kalaš studied economics and energy at the then Faculty of Economic Engineering of the Czech Technical University. From 1964 to 1965 he worked as an operating engineer at the Tušimice thermal power plant. Immediately after the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops in 1968, he left for Austria and he eventually settled in Switzerland. There he devoted eighteen years to international consulting in sixty-five countries, and from 1986 to 1994 he worked for the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Trade. We will also have the plesaure to hear the nomination speech of our Rotary candidate, Nerea Olabegoya, Business Consultant and Director of Qualo Training and Mobility. We look forward to seeing you on Monday!
