Our meeting at the Barcelo Hotel Old Town Prague was attended by over 25 members and friends. Five members of the Holbaek Inner Wheel Club Joined us, the oldest Inner Wheel club in Denmark and were very welcome.
Lara, our exchange student presented the club with the flag from her home club, Minden in Nevada.
Gerry updated the members and friends on the tremendous success of the fundraising effort "Indian Food Helps" where meals are delivered to offices with a significant contribution from each meal going to help Indian schoolchildren with their education. Over 50% more meals have been sold than last year!
Sanan raised the awareness of the club about a funding issue at a local hospital which is funded by the municipality of Prague 1. The situation is some wards is very difficult and Sanan is liaising with the hospital to determine if Rotary can help.
Our guest speaker was Petr Bisek who gave a fascinating account of how he has seen and seized opportunities throughout his life. Opportunities which have resulted in Petr being awarded medals of honour, meeting prime ministers and presidents, publishing a Czech language newspaper in the US and coaching a rowing team to medal success. It all really started when, under a previous regime, he threw a hand grenade 83 meters in a competition, much further than anyone else had ever thrown one.....
