Neo Liberalism in an unstable world

Mr. David Langwallner provoked thoughts and comments with his interesting lecture to Rotarians and Guests at our meeting this week. He used his native Ireland as an example of how economic policies can fundamentally alter the trajectory of a country. David argued: "Capitalism is being destroyed by neo liberalism" because the basic safety nets of a decent society are eroded away and thus quash the entrepreneurship of the individual to try new ventures in the knowledge that failure is a step towards success. "Small businesses are not nurtured in this system", said David as he complemented the Czech Republic for maintaining a system where the small shop and entrepreneur continued to thrive.

As society strives for more materialism, David suggested that in the future we will have to make do with less, however whilst not sacrificing quality of life. "What's wrong with being nice to each other" David  concluded, expressing values of community, collaboration and an approach where individuals care, not only about themselves but also about the society in which they live and work.
