"2016 will be a record year" said Jiří Kraus, referring to the number of passengers passing through Prague Airport, when he presented at a recent RCPI Club Meeting. Jiri has a long association with the airport having started as a technician working on the runway systems and is now the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vaclav Havel Airport.
Jiri explained how the airport has expanded from a single terminal back in 1937 and is now the second busiest airport in Central and Eastern Europe.
Running an airport is a complex business. More than 14,000 people work at the site of the airport and at peak times the airport can handle more than one aircraft per minute. This requires planning, coordination and a cool head. "We have to continue to update and evolve", said Jiri, commenting on the recent refurbishment of the Terminal 1 arrivals area to make it more visitor friendly as well as the installation of the new air bridges to handle the Airbus A380 which flies regularly between Prague and Dubai.
Sanan, President of RCPI, thanked Jiri for a fascinating and insightful presentation and a behind the scenes look at a facility which most of us have used at one time or another.
