In 1911, Service above Self was approved as the Rotary motto at the second convention of the National Association of Rotary Clubs of America, in Portland, Oregon. One of our members really took this to heart when, on her birthday, Linda Štucbartová asked her friends not to give her presents or flowers but to pool the money they would have spent to make a charitable donation.
This idea caught on and on this occasion Linda's husband celebrated his birthday in a similar manner. The result: a donation of CZK 15,000 which was presented through Rotary by Linda to Jeanne Bočková of the Centre for Talented Minds. Jeanne came to our recent club meeting to receive the cheque and thanked Linda and her husband for the generous donation.

The communist system brutally suppressed any elites, gifted children education and individualized approach to learning. This legacy still affects the educational system in the Czech Republic.  While there are many institutions helping with inclusion and children with special needs, the opportunities for gifted are very limited.
CTM aims to motivate talented hardworking young minds in Central Europe to excellence in education; help prepare students for admission to university studies at home and abroad and Create opportunities for the professional development of teachers and instructors.
